Bruges

The name of Bruges probably derives from the Dutch word ‘brug’ (bridge) which is suitable for the city of canals. Bruges is known for its beautiful medieval architecture and lace, both important for the tourism. The city is on the World Heritage List of Unesco. During the last half of the 19th century, Bruges became one of the world’s first tourist destinations. Bruges has most of its medieval architecture intact, making it one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe. Bruges has many quality hotels as well as cosy pubs and medieval restaurants.
